Froid/Lake Girls Win Battle Against Circle Squad, 46-41
Froid-Lake’s girls’ basketball team gained a double-digit advantage and held off Circle, 46-41, in league action on Saturday, Jan. 30. Ahead 12-10 at the end of a hotly contested first quarter, the Red Hawks scored five of the first seven points of the second period on a three-pointer by Dasani Nesbit along with free throws by Nesbit and Carolyne Christoffersen.
The Wildcats, on the scoring of Sierra Nagle and Alexis Moline, kept the margin close in the second quarter. The Red Hawks ended the half on a high note when a threepoint play by Sydney Dethman put the margin at 28-18.
Baskets by Nesbit and Dethman increased the gap to 32-20 midway into the second quarter. The margin increased to 35-20 on a drive by Nesbit and a free throw by Mara Salvevold.
After a three-pointer by A. Moline pulled the Wildcats to 35-23, the Red Hawks ended the quarter on baskets by Dethman and Nesbit for a 39-23 lead.
The three-point shooting of A. Moline and Nagle brought Circle back to 41-31 with 5:03 remaining. After the Red Hawks struggled from the foul stripe, a three-pointer by A. Moline got Circle to 43-37 with 1:47 remaining.
Three free throws by Dethman in the final minute led Froid/Lake down the stretch.
Top scorers for the Red Hawks were Dethman with 22 and Nesbit with 14 points. Also scoring were Christoffersen with five, Salvevold with three and Meg Ator with two.
Leading Circle were A. Moline with 15, Ryann Moline with nine and Nagle with eight points.
