Red Hawks Stop Circle’s Boys
The Froid/Lake Red Hawks put together a very impressive first half and earned a conference boys’ basketball victory in Circle on Saturday, Jan. 30.
The Red Hawks gained a 41-13 half-time advantage en route to a 64-19 win.
Froid/Lake’s zone full-court pressure caused Circle fits in the first quarter as the Red Hawks took an 11-0 advantage. Three-pointers by Javonne Nesbit and Colt Miller highlighted the action.
After Circle’s Jace Curtiss scored with 4:58 left in the opening quarter, Hayden Lockie accounted for a threepoint play for an 11-5 margin.
The Red Hawks responded with the next eight points on four points by C. Miller, a drive by Bode Miller and a layup by Mason Dethman. After Lockie hit a shot, Tyler Wivholm connected from three-point range for a 22-7 advantage.
Two baskets in the final 15 seconds of the quarter by Nesbit, including a dunk, put the margin at 26-9.
Froid/Lake then opened the second quarter with nine straight points on a five points by Nesbit, a free throw by C. Miller and a three-pointer by Caden Kelm.
Four straight points by Brett Stentoft put the halftime margin at 41-13.
Reaching double figures for the Red Hawks were Nesbit with 14, Wivholm with 13 and C. Miller with 11.
Also scoring were Kelm with eight, Dethman with seven, Stentoft with four, Walker Ator with three, B. Miller with two and Issac Johnson with two.
Top scorers for Circle were Lockie with seven and Arley Idland with six.
