The Bainville Bulldogs accounted for a dramatic 36-35 girls’ basketball victory over Richey/Lambert in Bainville on Friday, Feb. 5.

Bainville entered the fourth quarter down by a 32-22 in the conference contest.

“This comeback win is a true testament to the grit and determination these girls show each night,” Bainville Coach Brandy Hansen said. “They never give up and play hard until the final buzzer every time they step out onto the court.”

Elsie Wilson opened the final period with a 12-footer. The eighth grader then scored on a drive to pull the Bulldogs to 32-26.

After Lakyn Rabbe connected for a basket, Wilson scored to cut the margin to 32-30 with four minutes to play.

Bainville tied the score at 32-32 on a basket by Wilson with 2:52 remaining.

The Fusion moved back ahead when Shaelyn Williams scored inside, but a free throw by Wilson closed the margin to 34-33.

Both squads struggled from the foul stripe until a free throw by Williams put the Fusion up 35-33 with 20 seconds remaining.

Sadie Ullmer, a sophomore, hit a three-pointer to put the Bulldogs up 36-35 with only four seconds left. The Fusion couldn’t get off a decent final shot.

Wilson finished with 10 points including nine in the final period. Ullmer added nine points.

Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Rabbe with six, Kaitlyn Adkins with five, Brecklyn Pippenger with four and Tally Berwick with two.

“We are learning and growing each and every game, and I could not be more pleased with their attitudes and efforts this season,” Hansen said.

Top scorers for the Fusion were Jaylyn Klempel with 12, Williams with nine and Lauren Prevost with seven.

The Fusion led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter and increased the margin to 23-15 at the half.
