Wolf Point’s explosive offensive attack led the Wolves to a 75-54 boys’ basketball victory in Poplar on Saturday, Feb. 6.

Ahead by only a 15-13 early in the second quarter, Wolf Point started to get going on two baskets by Antone Manning and a three-pointer by Zander Ackerman. A three-pointer by Kraven Silk increased the margin to 25-14.

After a basket by Dennis Red Eagle and two free throws by Inyan Growing Thunder closed the gap to 25-18, the Wolves ran off the next six points on baskets by Ackerman, Jack Sprague and Manning.

Ahead 33-24 midway into the second quarter, Ackerman accounted for six straight points for a 39-24 margin. Wolf Point led 44-28 at the half.

Four free throws by Red Eagle closed the margin to 44-32 to open the third quarter, but the accurate three-point shooting of Ackerman and Silk highlighted the quarter. The three-point shooting put the Wolves up 53-37.

After a drive by Growing Thunder cut the gap to 53-41, two three-pointers by Silk and another by Ackerman produced a 59-41 lead. Consecutive baskets by Manning increased the gap to 66-41.

Wolf Point led 66-46 at the end of the third quarter en route to the 75-54 victory.

Top scorers for the Wolves included Ackerman with 24 and Silk with 14. Each hit four three-pointers.

Manning finished with 17 points.

Also scoring were Corey Martell with six, Sprague with five, Kelby Bauer with five, Jaxon Azure with three and Gaige Bushman with two.

Leading Poplar were Growing Thunder and Red Eagle with 13 points each.

A pull-up jumper by Lambert put the Indians up 12-11 late in the first quarter.

Hoops by Silk and Bauer gave Wolf Point a 15-12 advantage to end the opening period.

Wolf Point will host Glendive on Thursday, Feb. 11, and Scobey on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Poplar travels to Glasgow on Thursday, Feb. 11, and Malta on Friday, Feb. 12.
