Red Hawks Beat Class B Malta
The Froid/Lake Red Hawks scored an impressive 47-44 victory at Malta on Friday, Feb. 5.
The game was deadlocked at 32-32 after three quarters of play, but Malta gained a 37-34 lead early in the fourth quarter.
Froid/Lake responded with a three-pointer by Colt Miller and a free throw by Mason Dethman to grab a 38-37 advantage. After a free throw by Malta’s Kooper Oxarart tied the game, the Red Hawks moved back ahead on a 12-footer by C. Miller. The senior then connected from three-point range for a 43-38 margin with 2:28 remaining.
Malta battled back to cut the gap to 43-42, but a hoop by Javonne Nesbit kept the Red Hawks ahead.
After a short jumper by Pierce Mortenson closed the gap to 45-44, Froid/Lake’s Tyler Wivholm scored off an assist from Dethman for a 47- 44 lead with 20 seconds left. Malta’s three-point attempt at the buzzer missed its mark.
Top scorers for the Red Hawks were C. Miller with 14 and Dethman with 12.
Also scoring were Nesbit with eight, Bode Miller with seven and Wivholm with six.
Leading Malta were Rex Williamson with 13 and Oxarart with 12.
Malta took a 13-10 lead in opening quarter and led 25-23 at the half.
