TEB Holds Committee Hearings
Shields To Be Tribal Health Director
This week’s Fort Peck Tribes Executive Board meeting ended earlier than usual becaues Indian Health Service Director Dennis Four Bear was quarantined due to possible COVID-19 exposure. There has been much less travel during the pandemic and the travel log was short, leaving very little for the chairman’s report.
With six voting members in attendance, the board moved directly to committee hearings and resolutions. First, the Education Committee put up a vote which authorized human resources staff to look into the Head Start administrative wage scale.
Economic Development will have Chairman Floyd Azure assure that culturally appropriate artwork is procured and displayed within the new White Buffalo Clinic.
During the Finance Committee, the board passed a resolution to support a Federal Communications Commission Tribal Lands Credit which will give Nemont a discount towards the purchase of 28Ghz Spectrum equipment. Nemont will need certification from the Tribes because there is currently no wireless service in the Jim Black Dog Hall in Fort Kipp. The Tribes also selected Julian Shields to be the Tribal Health director.
During the Land and Minerals committee, the board accepted a quote of $51,000 for an Aqua Systems Langemann gate, which will be part of the Oswego Wasteway Project with WWC Engineering Inc.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs had a funding request of $9,200 that will be used in the Buffalo Ranch expansion project, specifically to hire a temporary crew to put up more fencing.
Towards the end of the committee resolutions, the wellness center project was brought up. It was previously reported that the center was called Thundering Buffalo Wellness Center. However, the official name of the center remains as “Wellness Center.” Thundering Buffalo has been an unofficial name used in committee hearings.
The board passed a motion to enter into a specialized commissioning contract with Sletten Construction, which is ran by Joey Ficklin. Sletten will service the Wellness Center’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
