Bainville Girls Advance Into Tourney With Play-in Victory Over Brockton
The young Bainville girls’ basketball team qualified for the district tournament by downing Brockton, 61-17, in a play-in game on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Brockton trailed by only a 12-9 margin late in the first quarter, but Bainville ended the quarter on a free throw by Lakyn Rabbe and a hoop by Sadie Ullmer for a 14-9 advantage.
The Bulldogs began taking control in the second quarter as points by Tally Berwick, Elsie Wilson and Rabbe produced a 20-9 lead. After a basket by Brockton’s Kyra Stormy with 2:41 left in the half, the Bulldogs accounted for eight of the last 11 points of the half on six points by 5-10 junior Micah Anderson and a hoop by Brecklyn Pippenger for a 28-14 lead.
Bainville dominated the third quarter as the Bulldogs outscored Brockton by a 25-0 margin for a 53-14 advantage. Leading the attack during the period were Wilson with eight points and Pippenger with six points.
Top scorers for the Bulldogs were Pippenger with 14, Ullmer with 10 and Wilson with 10. Also scoring were Rabbe with eight, Anderson with eight, Berwick with six and Kaitlyn Adkins with five.
Stormy led Brockton with nine points. Also scoring were Ava Lone Bear with five, KayJay First That Walks with two and Hally Eder with one.
