Poplar Girls Drop Contest To Eagles
The Poplar Indians battled back but lost to Sidney, 66-54, in girls’ basketball play held in Poplar on Thursday, Feb. 18.
Sidney gained a 15-7 advantage in the first quarter and led 36-20 at the half.
After the Eagles took a 56-29 lead in the third quarter, Poplar outscored Sidney 25-10 in the final period.
“It was a great fourth quarter. I’m so proud of them for the strong finish,” Poplar Coach Teri Christian said. “If we can put four quarters like that together, we will be in a great place.”
Top scorers for Poplar were Keandra Martell with 22 and Morgen Nordwick with 13 points.
Also scoring were Rikki Belton with eight, Catherine Bear with four, Allie Azure with three, Macey Dionne with two and Jazmyn Carrywater with two points.
Leading Sidney were Olivia Schoepp with 21, Sophie Peters with 15 and Taylan Hansen with 13 points.
