Poplar Girls Drop Contest Against Wildcats
Poplar’s girls’ basketball squad fell short against Harlem, 58-49, in first-round action of the District 2B girls’ basketball tournament in Poplar on Thursday, Feb. 25.
The Indians trailed by only a 43-39 margin after three quarters of play. Harlem pulled away with 15 points in the final period including six by Taya Trottier.
Poplar’s top scorers were Macey Dionne and Keandra Martell with 14 points each. Also scoring were Rikki Belton with nine, Morgen Nordwick with seven, Allie Azure with three and Teagan Escarcega with two.
Trottier led the Wildcats with 15 points.
After a 12-12 deadlock at the end of the first quarter, Poplar led by a 27-25 half-time margin. Martell scored seven points for the Indians in the second quarter.
Poplar hit 16 of 22 freethrow attempts in the game compared to Harlem’s 18 of 30 tries.
