Poplar Ice Fishing Contest A Go For March 13

The 13th Poplar Ice Fishing Contest is planing to move ahead Saturday, March 13. The contest was originally planned for Feb. 6.

Organizer Doug Marottek told the Northern Plains Independent that the final word on the event will depend on conditions. “I will know more on ice conditions after this weekend,” he said. “It looks like we get a little cool down next week.”

If the weather cooperates, the contest will take place at Dego Bend south of Poplar beginning at 10 a.m. The event will last approximately five hours. Said Marottek, “My wife and I started this to promote outdoor family fun, it is a good community event for all ages.”

All holes will be pre-drilled, Entry costs are one hole for $10 or three for $25, There will be cash prizes for top three fish (any species), based on number of entries. In the event of a tie, the first fish caught will be the winner. Tribal fishing licenes will not be required.
