Fourbear Talks Clinic Dates, Vaccines At TEB

Changes Planned At Frazer Store

The Tribal Executive Board heard from Indian Health Service Director Dennis Fourbear and representatives from Fort Peck Inc. at the March 8 full board meeting. The board also approved of new hires for the Tribal Police Force and new protocols for the use of hemp. Two Wolf Point Police officers were approved for cross-deputization.

As with most health reports during the pandemic, Fourbear updated the board on the Tribe’s response to COVID-19. This week, IHS will have clinics Tuesday through Friday. March 11 will see vaccination clinics in Poplar at the cultural center. A clinic was also planned for March 10 in Frazer at the community hall. There will be another clinic March 12 at the Wolf Point Community Center.

During the last board meeting, the board asked Fourbear about vaccinating communities outside of Poplar and Wolf Point. Frazer gets its prime vaccines this week. Brockton is scheduled to receive their first doses next week. IHS is still administering the prime dosage this week and next week in Brockton. The prime dose is just the first shot a person receives before a booster is given several weeks later. Once you receive your prime dosage of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines, a letter will be sent with a schedule for the booster.

After Fourbear’s report, Lynette Adams, who owns and operates Tribal Express II in Frazer, answered the board’s questions about changes that will be implemented to the business. Councilman Dana Buckles asked Adams about putting in gas pumps. He commented about seeing people on the side of the highway walking to Wolf Point for gas. Adams said they’re working on installing pumps with card readers so that people can fuel up after business hours.

After Buckles comments, Councilwoman Patt Runs Through brought up the idea of installing gaming machines in the building to increase revenue. Adams told the board that the building is too small for the machines and instead is trying to model the store after AgLand West in Wolf Point which has become a small market with produce and fresh meat.

With the Chairman’s report done, the board moved on to committee resolutions where they passed motions to hire Danny Eder along with John J. Benabente as tribal officers. Following this, a resolution was passed that reinstated Wolf Point officers Alicia Morales and Enrique Morales to the cross deputy program. Along with these motions, the board passed a resolution to enact the Fort Peck Hemp Production Code for the regulation and production of hemp on the Fort Peck Reservation.
