Bainville Selects New Superintendent Of Schools

An individual with strong experience in school administration has been hired to be the new superintendent of schools in Bainville.

“My wife, Melissa, and I are both small town people,” Darin Hannum said about accepting the position. “It’s all about people. Small towns have fantastic people. We’re excited.”

His education includes earning his bachelors degree from MSU Billings and his masters degree through the University of Phoenix. He then earned his superintendent’s endorsement from the University of Montana.

After being a math teacher for nine years, he served as a principal in Box Elder and then as superintendent in Box Elder. He has been superintendent in Chinook for the past six years.

He noted that he has heard about how great of a school system that Bainville features for several years.

“It’s a well put together program with knowledgeable and hard-working trustees,” Hannum said.

The Hannums have four children, with the youngest one graduating from Chinook High School this spring.

“It’s a great time for us,” Darin said.

Melissa’s professional background includes being an elementary teacher and working in Head Start. She is currently an elementary school secretary. She is also a high school volleyball official.

“She’s open to trying new things and see where her experience takes her,” Darin said.

The couple’s hobbies include fishing, boating and watching sports. He has coached track and basketball during his career but is happy to be a supportive fan now.

“There’s a lot of gyms in Eastern Montana that I’ve never been to and look forward to seeing,” Hannum said.

He will replace Renee Rasmussen who announced her retirement earlier this school year. Rasmussen will serve in the position through the end of this school year.

Rasmussen has been Bainville’s superintendent of schools for nine years.
