The Froid/Lake Red Hawks accounted for the game’s first eight points and then exploded for 25 points in the third quarter to beat Lustre, 58-25, in the first round of the Eastern C girls’ basketball divisional tournament on Wednesday, March 3.

Froid/Lake’s sophomore Carolyne Christoffersen scored six of the first eight points of the game including baskets off passes from Dasani Nesbit and Sydney Dethman.

A hoop by freshman Alexa Reddig put the Lions on the scoreboard. The Red Hawks tallied the next 10 points on six points by Nesbit and a drive by Dethman. Another basket by Reddig cut the margin to 16-4 at the end of the opening quarter.

The Lions played tougher in the second quarter and were outscored by only a 7-5 margin. The Red Hawks led 23-9 at the half.

After Lustre’s Reddig hit a shot to open the third quarter, the Red Hawks accounted for 17 of the game’s next 20 points for a 40-14 advantage. Baylee Davidson, a sophomore, scored Froid/ Lake’s first seven points of the streak. Dethman then tallied eight of the next 10 points for the Red Hawks.

After Ashley O’Hara connected on a 17-footer for the Lions, Froid/Lake struck for the last eight points of the quarter on baskets by Davidson, Dethman, Christoffersen and Nesbit for a 48-16 advantage.

Top scorers for Froid/ Lake were Dethman with 16, Christoffersen with 13 and Davidson with 12 points. Also scoring were Nesbit with eight, Mara Salvevold with five and Meg Ator with two.

Nesbit finished with 12 rebounds and eight assists.

Leading Lustre were Reddig with nine and Aubri Holzrichter with seven points. Also scoring were Tiara Whitmus with five, O’Hara with two and Grace Brown with two.

Whitmus grabbed nine rebounds for the Lions.
