Scobey Ends Season for Red Hawks
A hot-shooting Scobey team eliminated Froid/Lake’s girls’ team, 50-27, at the Eastern C divisional basketball in Sidney on Friday, March 5.
The Spartans hit 10 three-pointers in the loser- out contest.
The Red Hawks gained an early 6-3 lead on the scoring of senior Sydney Dethman and sophomore Baylee Davidson.
After a three-pointer by Scobey’s Whitley Maher tied the game at 6-6, Froid/Lake went back ahead on a turnaround shot by Dethman. The Spartans went ahead to stay on two more three-pointers by Maher, a junior, for a 12-8 margin.
A three-point play by Dethman pulled the Red Hawks to 12-11 at the end of the opening quarter.
Scobey led by only a 14-13 margin until the Spartans struck for eight straight points including five by Gracee Lekvold for a 22-13 lead.
The Red Hawks battled back to 25-18 with five of the last eight points of the half on three points by Dethman and a baseline shot by Mara Salvevold.
The Spartans opened with the first nine points of the third quarter for a 34-18 advantage. Baskets by Salvevold and Dasani Nesbit cut the gap to 34-22 at the end of the period.
Scobey scored 16 points in the fourth quarter for the 50-27 final.
Dethman led the Red Hawks with 15 points. Also scoring were Davidson with four, Salvevold with four, Nesbit with two and Carolyne Christoffersen with two.
Nesbit grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals.
Top scorers for Scobey were Maher with 15 and Lekvold with 13.
