Future Looks Bright For Red Hawks
Although the Froid/Lake Red Hawks didn’t win as many games at the Class C state boys’ basketball tournament as was hoped, there were plenty of reasons to be proud of their efforts during this past weekend.
Their lone victory at the state tournament was by an impressive 66-41 margin over Bridger. The two losses were close calls, including one in overtime, against quality opponents. Manhattan Christian is always one of the very top teams in the state and the Red Hawks were able to play toe-to-toe against them on Saturday morning.
Because of COVID concerns, media members weren’t permitted to watch games that didn’t involve the team they were covering so I can’t give you first-hand knowledge about some of the squads. Based on scores, I would have to say the top two teams at the tournament were state champion Scobey and then Manhattan Christian. The two teams played a close semi-final round contest. After that, the Red Hawks had the capability of playing as well as anybody.
The Red Hawks’ journey this season was impressive. They earned the District 2C regular-season and tournament titles. They played Scobey closer than anybody else in the state. A little more consistent play during the post-season was needed to earn another win or two.
The future of the Red Hawks looks bright and the experience gained at this year’s state tournament will be beneficial. Of course, they will miss the current seniors, but the solid play of juniors Brent Stentoft and Ashdyn Hobbs off the bench during tournaments was noteworthy.
While other teams are going to lose many more seasons, we can expect the Red Hawks to be back stronger than ever next basketball season. Hopefully work in the off-season will prepare Froid/ Lake for a possible title run.
