Poplar’s Golf Team Features Young Members This Year

The Poplar Indians field a very young golf team this season. The squad features one sophomore and three freshmen.
“We’re young and we’re small,” Poplar coach Kevin Exstrom said of the squad.
The team includes sophomore Preston Ogle, freshman Gage Berg, freshman Finesse Headdress and freshman Landon Young.
“It’s interesting,” Exstrom said of having such a young team. “Everything is a surprise.”
Berg and Young have each played at youth tournaments. Young placed second and Berg took third at a meet in Wolf Point. The other two Poplar golfers are beginners.
“My biggest goal for any year is for the kids to improve every week,” Exstrom said. Early meets for the Indians included action in Shelby and Forsyth.
“We will see how they react during the next couple of weeks,” the coach said.
Poplar will host an invitational in Wolf Point on Friday, April 16, that will include Class B opponents as well as some Class C teams.
The divisional meet is scheduled in Shelby on Tuesday, May 11.
“Every year is a different ball to hit because you don’t know what other teams are shooting,” Exstrom said.
