Law Enforcement Academy Graduates 60 New Officers
The Montana Law Enforcement Academy recently held graduation for 60 new officers to serve 40 agencies across the state.
The new officers include Centennial Colon for the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office and Taylor Matthews for the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office.
Basic and advanced training for state, county, city and tribal law enforcement is provided by the academy. The Montana Department of Justice operates the academy.
Other graduates to serve in Northeastern Montana include Timothy Remington for the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office and Canyon Miwa for the Daniels County Sheriff’s Office.
Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen was one of the ceremony’s guest speakers.
Addressing the class, Knudsen emphasized the importance of interagency cooperation among law enforcement officers in the face of a meth-driven violent crime spike in Montana.
“Meth is a poison that is tearing apart families and causing crime to surge. Law enforcement officers have always been an important part of our state, but Montanans need you now more than ever,” Knudsen said. “There will come a time when you must work together to protect public safety, and that’s why you trained together. It’s our hope that each of you leaves here with working relationships with your fellow officers in other agencies.”
