Area Counties Announce Burn Bans
Roosevelt County has entered into a burn ban because of the extreme dry weather conditions. The Roosevelt County Commissioners announced the decision on Wednesday, April 7.
The county will not issue any burn permits until conditions improve.
“It’s so dry and there’s been so many fires in our area,” commissioner Gordon Oelkers said.
Prior to that, the Fort Peck Tribes announced a burn ban that included a ban on fireworks can not be sold on tribal land.
Oelkers said each town can decide whether to ban fireworks if they feel that measure is necessary.
Richland County issued a resolution for no open burning in that county as of Wednesday, April 7. Richland County was declared in State 1 restrictions for burning.
The U.S. National Weather Service, Glasgow, said last week’s drought monitor brought in extreme drought to eastern parts of the area including Plentywood, Culbertson, Sidney, Glendive and Wibaux. Designated in the severe drought areas included Wolf Point, Glasgow, Malta, Opheim, Terry and Circle.
