Wolf Point School Board Renews Certified Staff
The Wolf Point School District board of trustees held their regular meeting Monday, April 12, at the district office. A special agenda item was added to include a request from the Wolf People Club. The board voted to approve the use of a district suburban for out-of-state travel. The club will be traveling June 5-9 to cultural sites in and around the Black Hills in South Dakota.
Longtime Northside School teacher Barbara Olson is retiring. Northside teacher Christina Smith resigned from a teaching position at the school and was approved for rehire as a paraprofessional. JubileeJade Umphreys transfered from assistant cook to non-instructional paraprofessional at Southside.
Certified staff were renewed for the 2021-2022 school year and a memorandum of understanding with Montana Job Corps was approved.
An amendment to Policy 5120 regarding Native American studies requirements for certified staff was approved, as was a contract with Erickson Irrigation for springtime lawn and grounds maintenance.
The district is in need of bells, clocks and paging systems at area schools. A call for bids was approved by the board.
Minutes were passed for the March 15 board and warrant registers and claims against the district were approved.
During board reports, Northside principal Georgie Gourneau said teacher Brandi Burshia has been selected as employee of the month for April. Parent teachers conferences were held April 6 and 8.
Southside principal Greg Gourneau reported that attendance for the seventh grade is at 85.65 percent and eighth grade is at 81.60 percent.
High school principal Kim Hanks reported, “Spring sports are off and running. The coaches and students are extremely busy.” She also said that 11th graders took the ACT on March 23 and are receiving their scores.
Facilities director Shane Reed reported that roof repairs are ongoing at the west side bus barn.
