Poplar Becomes Official FFA Chapter Poplar Becomes Official FFA Chapter

Poplar’s students officially become a FFA chapter during the Montana FFA state convention held on April 7-10 in Billings.

“It was awesome,” Poplar FFA advisor Ted Fulgham said of the convention. “This action allows the recognition of Poplar FFA and gave them a state ID number.”

Students representing Poplar were Patricia Charboneau, Rosanna Youpee and Gaberiella Baker.

Fulgham said one of the convention’s highlights was the Native American program. He said the program covers tribes’ culture and history.

“So, we start doing that next year,” Fulgham said. “The members set a goal after watching the program to compete in it in the 2022 State Native American Program at the state convention.”

This year the Montana state FFA convention had a number of restrictions on members and chapter attendance in accordance with COVID protocols.

The last time that Poplar had a chartered FFA program was 1941. The chapter was active through 1943.

“I think there’s a huge demand for it here with our ag-based area,” Fulgham said earlier this school year. “There’s a great need for it.”
