Bainville Council Votes To Remove Culverts

The Bainville Town Council held its regular meeting Monday, May 10. Mayor Dennis Portra asked the council to consider a motion to remove painted culverts at 311 Clinton Street/Hwy 327. The culverts, recently painted with political graffiti and other messaging, are considered an eyesore by some area residents. The council voted to notify the landowner that they are required to remove the culverts by May 25 or the town will remove them. Council member Ron Butikofer voted against the motion.
During the public works report, clerk Nikki Rogers thanked Dan and Lyle Lambert for recent clean up efforts. She said the mower is nearly ready for use and tree servicing is being scheduled.
Language for a chicken ordinance was approved. The ordinance designates female chickens as the only birds permitted in town. A public hearing is set for June 14 at 7 p.m.
A variance on the occupied camper ordinance was granted for Bainville School. New permits were approved for a fence at 406 Clinton Street and a movable shed at 707 Flynn Avenue East.
Two summer employees were approved for mowing positions with the town.
The treasurer’s report was reviewed. The council approved claims and checks dated May 10, as well as JV and UB vouchers, payroll slips. Minutes were approved for April.
The next regular meeting is set for June 14. `
