Commissioners Pleased With Legislative Session

No news was good news when it came to this Montana Legislature session for Roosevelt County.

Roosevelt County Commissioner Gary Macdonald said he doesn’t believe any of the bills passed will do harm for the county.

“Any bill that was going to be a negative to us was voted down,” Macdonald said.

Commissioners were concerned about some amendments made with House Bill 632 that wouldn’t allow lobbyists for organizations such as the Montana Association of Counties, Montana League of Cities and and Towns and school boards.

“That would have been bad for us,” Macdonald said.

He explained that some legislators rely on certain organizations to gather information about the bill, and that it’s important for government entities to know about pending legislation and voice their opinion.

“That’s why it’s important to have a group lobbyist,” Macdonald said.
