County Seeing Syphilis Outbreak

Roosevelt County is currently experiencing an outbreak of syphilis. This is a very dangerous disease for every person that is not properly treated, but is especially heinous for women of child bearing age due to the fact that it can be passed from the mother to the fetus.

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease for which there is no vaccine, but the good news is that there is treatment especially if you or your partner are at substantial risk.

The only way to know if you have this disease is to get tested.

There are several ways to protect yourself and others from this disease.

Abstinence is a decision to simply not have sex.

Other ways to prevent sexually transmitted disease is to have only one partner known to be without disease or the proper use of a condom.
