Students Create Quilts As Part Of Class
Combining geometry and art proved to be an excellent learning opportunity for some Wolf Point High School students this spring.
After math teacher Wendy Connelley had her sophomore and junior students learn symmetry skills in geometry class, the students were instructed to create barn quilts. Art teacher Vivian Schultz collaborated with Connelley on the project.
“We incorporated their geometry sills into art pieces,” Connelley explained.
The barn quilts were displayed at the high school on Wednesday, June 2. Staff members voted for a “people’s choice.”
Connelley said the “wow” factor is part of the grade, so the student who wins the people’s choice will receive extra credit.
“A lot of these kids took off and ran with it,” she said of the students’ response.
She was pleased with how the assignment went. She hopes to do it again next year.
“I planned to do it last year, but it got canceled like everything else in life,” she said.
