Workers Check Trails On Regional Trip
A pair of workers with American Conservation Experience have been checking trails and outdoor recreational facilities from Malta to Medicine Lake in recent weeks. The pair are tasked with checking trails throughout the region, including Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and other Mountain West locations. They spoke to the “Community News” at Wild West Diner in Culbertson June 7.
Aidan Leahy and William Montgomery joined ACE out of Dallas, Texas, and spent the first weekend of June camping at Medicine Lake National Wildlife Refuge. They have also visited and checked Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge near Malta.
“This is the best summer job I’ve ever had in my life,” said Leahy. The pair were bound for Lake Ilo National Wildlife Refuge near Watford City, ND.
Leahy said the stay at Bowdoin was a “service project” stop, where workers take a break from trail inventory and help with trail maintenance.
ACE is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing rewarding environmental service opportunities for youth of all backgrounds to explore and improve public lands while gaining practical professional experience.
In 2004, ACE began as a small, international conservation program in Arizona, engaging global volunteers through rewarding public lands projects. Since then, the group has grown to serve locations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, continuing their mission to foster cross-cultural understanding and unity through national service.
