Torgerson Provides Help At Extension Office
Emma Torgerson is still learning and couldn’t be at a better place for a hands-on work experience.
Torgerson, who recently completed her freshman year at North Dakota State University in Fargo, is serving as a summer employee and intern in the Roosevelt County MSU Extension Office. The office, located in Culbertson, has been short an Extension agent since Jan. 1.
“Some friends of mine told me that they might be looking for some help this summer,” Torgerson said.
Torgerson, a 2020 graduate of Sidney High School, is working on a bachelor’s degree in agriculture education. Her background includes nine years as an active 4-H member.
“It kind of where it all stems from,” Torgerson said of her 4-H experience.
Accomplishments in 4-H have included being a Junior Leader, winning the Helping Hands award and serving as a 4-H Ambassador for several years.
“It’s a fun way to connect with others and do something that you enjoy,” Torgerson said of her 4-H involvement.
She was also an officer for her high school FFA organization.
Her duties in the Extension office currently include preparing for the regional 4-H camp that is scheduled at the Beacon Bible Camp in Frazer for June 28-30. The event will feature more than 60 participants from Roosevelt, Valley, Daniels, Sheridan and Richland counties.
“It’s a fun way to make new friends from other counties,” Torgerson said of the camp.
She is also helping promote the MSU ag tour to take place in Sidney on July 20.
Another exciting upcoming activity is Clover Bud Day at the Roosevelt County Fairgrounds in Culbertson from 1-3:30 p.m. on July 14. Clover Buds, ages 6-8 years old, will be involved with a various of activities throughout the afternoon.
Torgerson is also available to help answer agriculture and horticulture questions from residents. Staff receives resource support from MSU specialists.
“She’s doing a great job,” Roosevelt County Extension agent Ardis Oelkers said. “I believe her experience as a 4-H member gives her great understanding.”
