Frederick Voted To Sheriffs’ Board
Roosevelt County is going to be represented on the board of directors for the Montana Sheriffs and Peace Officers.
Sheriff Jason Frederick was one of five sheriffs in the entire state that was voted to the board during the organization’s convention held in Butte earlier this month.
Frederick said he was honored to be selected by his peers.
Among those voting were sheriffs, undersheriffs and deputies.
“It was something I’ve wanted to get involved in and help make decisions that affect sheriffs and deputies throughout the state,” Frederick said.
He noted the organization works on legislative issues and testify on bills. For example, legislation was passed this past session that gave authority for sheriffs to give undersheriffs and deputies pay increases based on the sheriff’s salary. The undersheriffs’ pay will increase from 95 percent to 98 percent of the sheriff’s salary. Deputies will be able to be paid up to 95 percent of the sheriff’s salary.
The pay increases will help sheriff offices with the challenge of recruiting new officers.
The board of directors meet virtually on a weekly basis and in person on a quarterly basis.
“I’m happy to be on the board,” Frederick said.
This is Frederick’s seventh year as the sheriff for Roosevelt County. The office is currently looking for jailers and dispatchers. Starting wage is just over $17 with full benefits.
