New Officer Starts With Police Department

Wolf Point’s newest police officer is glad to be working close to home.

Nick Portra is originally from Lustre. He graduated from high school in Oregon and then earned his associate of applied science degree in criminal justice from Flathead Community College in Kalispell last November.

Portra, 22, said he has always been interested in law enforcement.

“I wanted to do it since grade school,” Portra said. “I’ve always had an interest in it.”

He enjoys the variety that his job provides him.

“It’s interesting that’s for sure,” Portra said. “I like new experiences.”

He is happy that he can live with his grandmother in Lustre.

He appreciates the support that he has received from the Wolf Point Police Department.

“They have all been welcoming,” Portra said.

He joins another new officer, Eric Bridge, in serving the community.
