Powwow Dates Confirmed, Wadopana Postponed
All but one of the traditional area powwows have released dates and limited schedules for 2021.
No celebrations were held on the Fort Peck Reservation in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Red Bottom in Frazer is the first up on July 24. According to Mike Turcotte, there will likely be no contest, with only traditional day pay.
Following the death of longtime organizer Sandra Lilley last year, the powwow in Wolf Point has been postponed.
“Wadopana is not holding a celebration this summer,” Tribal Executive Board member Kaci Wallette told the Northern Plains Independent.
According to Wallette, the Badlands powwow in Brockton is set for July 30-Aug. 1. Turns Around in Poplar will be held Aug. 20-22. The Fort Kipp Celebration will be Aug. 27-28 and Poplar Indian Days is set for Sept. 3-5.
