Miller To Compete In Volunteer Pageant
Kyrsten Miller, 22, is hoping to be crowned the first Miss Montana Volunteer at the pageant July 22-24 in Glendive. The winner receives a $5,000 scholarship and advances to the Miss Volunteer America Pageant. Each contestant earns at least a $900 scholarship.
She is the daughter of Sasha Fourstar and Chris Miller of Glasgow. Miller enjoys working on the farm and reading. She graduated from Frazer High School and is a senior at Fort Peck Community College, majoring in education and she hopes to earn a degree in psychology. She plans to continue her education in psychology at MSU-Bozeman.
Miller said she is best known for her kindness. She is on the softball league in Poplar. She will be singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” for her talent.
The Miss Montana Volunteer judging criteria is 40 percent interview, 20 percent talent, 20 percent evening gown and 20 percent fitness in swimwear. Thursday and Friday night are preliminary competitions with preteen, age 9-12, crowned Thursday and Miss Montana Teen Volunteer crowned Friday and the Miss MT Volunteer Saturday at the DCHS Auditorium in Glendive. Showtime is 7 p.m. each night. The Miss Montana board based in Glendive switched to the new Miss America Volunteer program based in Tennessee as it focuses on advancing young women though education and service. Their mission spells SERVE from the five points of the crown: scholarship, education, responsibility, volunteerism and empowerment.

The pageant is part of Dawson Days, with crazy days Friday and Saturday, Bell Street Bridge Day Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the triathlon finish line at Eyer Park and a vendors’ market there and along Bell Street. There’s cornhole and disc golf tournament and outdoor movie at Makoshika State Park. The Hometown Pride parade is Friday at 1 p.m. followed by an ice cream social provided by Cross Petroleum and sponsored by the Glendive Chamber.
