Bulls Prepare For District Baseball Tournament
A 7-5 victory over the Billings Cardinals highlighted the Post #49 Bulls’ efforts in Billings during American Legion baseball action in Billings during the weekend.
The Bulls jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Braeden Romo scored the first run when Justice Bengochea reached on an error. A single by Dylan Tabbert knocked in Bengochea for a 2-0 lead. Colter Oie singled and scored in the frame.
Ahead by a 3-1 margin, the Bulls struck for four runs in the top of the fifth. A double by Issac Johnson scored Oie with the inning’s first run. Tabbert followed with a double to bring in Johnson for a 5-1 advantage. After a single by Peyton Hauge scored Tabbert, Hauge came in on a single by Romo.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the seventh for the 7-5 final.
Leading the Bulls’ eight-hit attack were Johnson and Tabbert with two hits each. Tabbert accounted for two runs batted in.
Tabbert pitched the first six innings for the victory. Walker Ator pitched the final frame.
The Bulls lost the first game of the double-header against the Billings Cardinals by an 11-2 final.
The Cardinals took an 8-1 lead during the contest’s first two innings.
Scoring the Bulls’ two runs were Easton Tommerup and Oie.
Hauge and Tommerup led the Bulls with two hits each. Adding hits were Parker Sinks, Oie, Tabbert and Romo.
Johnson and Hauge each pitched three innings.
The Bulls dropped both games of a double-header against the Billings Blue Jays on Friday, July 16.
The Blue Jays won the first game by a 9-1 margin. They took control with five runs in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Oie accounted for two of the Bulls’ five hits. Also with hits were Sinks, Hauge and Tabbert.
Scoring the Bulls’ runs were Hauge and Tabbert. Sinks finished with two runs batted in.
Oie pitched a complete game. He struck-out four batters.
The Blue Jays took the second contest by an 11-1 final. Billings scored seven of its runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Highlighting the contest for the Bulls was a home run by Hauge in the top of the fifth inning.
Hauge finished with two of the Bulls’ six hits. Adding hits were Tommerup, Johnson, Ator and Tabbert.
Romo pitched four innings for the Bulls.
The district tournament will begin in Glasgow on Thursday, July 22.
The Bulls will open against the Miles City Mavericks at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 22.
