Patrick “Rick” Joseph Stuber checked into the 19th hole on Sept. 13, 2019.

He was born a Thoeny, Mont., boy in Glasgow June 6, 1947, to Joseph Albert and Patricia Ann (Langteau) Stuber. He was primarily educated and graduated from Hinsdale.

Rick joined the Marine Corps while a senior in HS and served from his graduation in 1965 to his honorable discharge in 1968. He was a gunner during his Vietnam tour and a helicopter fueler for HMM 265 and HMM 262 (Bill’s Bastards). He was later diagnosed with cancer as a result of exposure to Agent Orange.

Rick worked his way through college as a Valley County Deputy Sheriff and graduated from Eastern Montana College in 1976. While teaching, coaching, and administrating, he earned an MEd from UM and later an EdD. Dr. Stuber was a dedicated professional educator as a teacher, coach, athletic director, elementary and high school principal and superintendent in schools across Montana and Oregon. He continued his service to education as an adjunct professor at several universities and through his curriculum construction business. He won numerous awards and honors in his field.

Rick was a lifelong athlete and runner. He excelled in many sports and played league softball and basketball well into his 50s. He was twice selected as the Montana Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year.

He is survived by: His children and their families Gabe (Taleasha) Gerald, Jonas and Atticus; Jennifer (Luke Graham) Thoeny, Mozelle Dorthea and Josie; Daana’ and daughter Claire; Ashley (Derek) Johnny, Mary, Derek Jr., and Deliz; and Daniel (Sunni) Elsie and Michael. His wife Stacy (DeLoach) and her sons Dagan, Dallas, Trevor and Corbin. His brothers Joe and Tom and sisters Teresa and Mary. His sister Suzy predeceased him.

The family of Dr. Rick Stuber will be celebrating his life on Tuesday, July 27. After a family service at Thoeny, libations will be had and stories will be told at Stoughie’s in Hinsdale Tuesday afternoon. The family will also be gathering the evening of Saturday, July 24, at The Coach in Culbertson.
