Hailey Vine is excited about starting her duties as the Food & Ag Development Center (FADC) director for the Great Northern Development Corporation. “I’m looking forward to partnering with producers to work toward economic growth in the region,” Vine said.

Vine, who is originally from South Dakota, holds a bachelors degree in animal science and a minor in business administration from Montana State University.

She married her husband, Tyler, last fall and they make their home in Circle near their farming operation.

She will work remotely but she comes to the Great Northern Development Corp. office in Wolf Point often.

Vine’s duties will include being a business consultant for area producers and businesses. She will also be a great resource for agricultural and renewable energy opportunities.

“I also help producers try to address different revenue sources that can help them build their current operations,” Vine said.

She noted that the current drought conditions are a reminder that it’s beneficial to have different revenue options. “I feel it’s super important,” Vine said.

She is excited that Great Northern Development Corp., has received $14,000 from the No Kid Hungry Grant to conduct a regional food economy study. The study will help establish community-driven strategies that will reduce food insecurity and increase economic development and diversification for the local food system. Counties to be involved with the study include Roosevelt, Garfield, McCone, Valley, Daniels, Fallon, Sheridan, Dawson, Prairie, Wibaux and Carter.

Vine explained that consultants will conduct the research and develop an action plan to follow. “It will be a great guide to the FADC’s scope of work,” Vine said. “We want to make sure we put our efforts where they are needed.”

In addition, her role as the Food & Ag Development Center director will include technical assistance and food marketing.

Vine is also available to help producers prepare and apply for USDA and state grants. For more information, call the Great Northern Development Corp., office at 653-2590, ext. 201.
