First Community Bank announced that after 22 years serving as bank president, Sam Waters retired on June 30. Kris Simensen, chief executive officer, assumed the role as president on July 1.

Waters will continue with the bank as chairman of the board and president of the holding company.

Waters joined FCB in 1991 as senior vice president/ag loan officer and was appointed to president in 1999.

He served as the sixth president in the 130-year history of First Community Bank. In 2016 he was elected and served for one year as chairman of the Montana Banker Association.

Born and raised in Froid, Waters graduated with a degree in accounting and agricultural business from Montana State University and later attended Northwest Intermediate Banking School and Pacific Coast Banking School. Prior to First Community Bank, he worked 14 years for the Farm Credit System.

Upon his departure, Sam sent the following message to staff, “It’s been an honor and a privilege and one that I could not have accomplished without all of you. I just wanted to thank all of you for your dedication and support. It has made my tenure a wonderful experience.”
