Frazer School Hosts Healing Week With Speakers, Presentations
The Frazer School hosted a week-long event called Healing Week July 19-24. Topics discussed included cultural awareness, healing guidance, health and wellness, bullying, social media bullying, self esteem, addiction prevention, youth leadership, lateral violence and other subjects. Staff thanked Brockton students, who also attended. The event was made possible by support from the National Native Children’s Trauma Center, Fort Peck Tribes Health Promotion Disease Prevention and the Chante Project.
Days one and two of Healing Week featured presentations from LoVina Louie, Joe Suchanic, Levi Horn, Mariah Watchman and Supaman. Dejondra Gardipee and her crew prepared Indian tacos.
Along with presentations and speakers, students were given basketballs and other prizes on day three. Day four saw LaVerne Whitebear, who explained to the students the different ways the buffalo was used in tribal traditions. There was storytelling and beading and students learned about Lacrosse.
During day five, a sports camp was offered with Levi Horn and Mariah Watchman, along with traditional cultural learning from LaVerne Whitebear.
A memorial run was also hosted for “Grandpa Dean” Blount on Saturday, July 24, at the Cansuska Presbyterian Church.
