County Continues Looking For Employees

With the official unemployment rate at 4.3 percent for Roosevelt County, many businesses are scrambling to find workers for positions.

Roosevelt County is among the employers who are constantly seeking new employees.

“It’s an on-going thing,” Roosevelt County Commissioner Gordon Oelkers said. “We always have openings.”

Commissioners noted that current openings include a cook for aging and 911 workers.

“We did just hire a new road department guy,” Oelkers said.

Commissioners say county’s benefits including a good health insurance program does attract some employees.

“We’re competitive with wages,” Oelkers said.

Commissioners Gary Macdonald and Oelkers agree that a lot of businesses in the country are struggling in finding employees at the moment.

“There’s a lot of competition for the available people who want to work,” Oelkers said. “It’s a pretty tight market.”

In June, Job Service noted that the most difficult positions to fill include seasonal agricultural workers, emergency services, nursing homes, hospitals, mechanics and truck drivers.
