A very quick Bainville football squad has its eye on a playoff spot this season.

Bainville’s 10-player rosters includes seniors Jesse Strickland at quarterback/linebacker and Braeden Romo at wide receiver/defensive end. The two will serve as Bainville’s captains this year.

Strickland was selected to the All-Conference team in 2020.

“He’s a quick, natural athlete,” Bainville Coach Trustin Holcomb said of Strickland.

Receiver/safety Adrian Anderson is the lone junior on the team. He has some varsity experience.

“We’re expecting him to step up pretty much,” Holcomb said. The five sophomores include twins Charles Butikofer and Samuel Butikofer at running back/linebacker, Connor Wade at receiver/ safety, Cayden Boyd at center/ defensive end and Logan Josephson at middle linebacker/ running back.

“We have a lot of guys who need to step up big,” Holcomb added. Freshmen are Reed Winn at running back/safety and Trevor Robertus at quarterback/ linebacker. “We have a lot of really quick guys,” Holcomb said.

Lack of experience is a challenge for the Bulldogs.

Bainville will open its season at North Star on Saturday, Aug. 28. Bainville will host Box Elder on Saturday, Sept. 11.

“We’re hoping to be competitive,” Holcomb said. “We just need to gain some confidence first.” He expects Froid/Lake and Richey/Lambert to be the favorites in the league. The top three teams advance to the playoffs.

“We like our odds this year,” Holcomb said of a playoff berth.
