Fischer’s Trial Postponed

The homicide trial for Dorattelo “DJ” Fischer has been postponed until October in Great Falls.

Fischer was charged by a federal grand jury for first degree murder and use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.

Fischer is accused of killing Cody Weeks-Combs in Wolf Point on Nov. 27, 2020.

Chief District Judge Brian Morris granted the unopposed motion to continue trial. The jury trial was scheduled to start on Aug. 24.

The jury trial has been rescheduled for Oct. 26, at the Missouri River Federal Courthouse in Great Falls.

If convicted, Fischer faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

In seeking support of the motion for postponing the trial dates, the defense noted that discovery consists of approximately 500 pages of written discovery, reports, video and 23 witness interviews. Significant discovery review, client meetings and investigation is necessary to prepare for trial. “The case will likely be extremely complex and fact intensive and require expert testimony.” With investigation and witness interviews taking place in Wolf Point, it’s about an eight-hour drive for Fischer’s attorney offices in Missoula.

Individuals started to conduct walks through Wolf Point on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, asking for justice in the case. The march featured people of all ages chanting, “What do we want? “Justice,” “Who do we want it for?” “Cody.”

Weeks-Combs was a 2011 Wolf Point High School graduate and father of three children.
