Red Hawks Rout Wibaux To Open Conference Play

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks opened their conference football season with a bang on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The defending state champions exploded for 36 points in the first quarter and earned a 44-7 victory at Wibaux.

A fumble recovery by Connor Huft gave the Red Hawks possession at the Wibaux eight. Quarterback Mason Dethman ran in for the touchdown to put the score at 6-0 just 13 seconds into the contest.

After a good tackle by Ashdyn Hobbs on third down forced the Longhorns to punt the ball, Froid/Lake took over at the Wibaux 33. A pass from Dethman to Ashdyn Hobbs moved the ball to the 20. On the next play, Dethman broke loose for a touchdown run. Dethman kicked the conversion for a 14-0 lead with 7:40 left in the opening quarter.

Later in the period, the Red Hawks got back into scoring position when Dethman connected with Quinn Abar for a 34-yard completion to the three. Ashdyn Hobbs reached the end zone with 5:47 left in the quarter.

After the Longhorns turned the ball over on downs, Dethman hit a wideopen Brett Stentoft on a 29yard touchdown pass for a 28-0 advantage.

Dethman, a sophomore, then returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown. Dethman kicked the conversion for a 36-0 margin with 2:32 left in the first quarter.

The Red Hawks’ final touchdown of the day came on a four-yard dash by Daniel Forizs with 1:54 remaining in the half.

Wibaux’s touchdown came on an eight-yard run in the third quarter.

The Red Hawks will host a strong Richey/Lambert squad on Saturday, Oct. 2.
