Donna Reum has gone through countless court documents and has sit through hundreds of court cases in her role as legal assistant for Roosevelt County.

After 25 years working in the office, Reum retired this week. During a retirement party in the office on Monday, Sept. 27, she was presented with a star quilt that was paid for through donations from courthouse employees.

“I’ve really enjoyed working with everyone,” Reum said. “I enjoy all aspects of the law.”

She said one of her biggest memories was the Charles Henry Pinner trial in 2016. The Amtrak employee was convicted on the charges of kidnapping and sexual intercourse without consent. Reum said witnesses and people involved with the case were from Florida to Hawaii and places in between.

“I had to arrange all the travel and accommodations,” Reum explained.

During her tenure, she worked with a total of 10 different attorneys throughout the years. Her dedication and leadership will be missed in the attorney’s office.

“It was the best hire I ever had,” former county attorney Jim Patch said. “I don’t know how this office will run without her.”

County attorney Frank A. Piocos noted, “She’s just vital to our office. I’m sad to see her go. It’s bittersweet because I’m happy for her.”

Erika Fyfe, who has received training from Reum for the past seven months, is becoming the new legal assistant for the county. “I was told from the beginning, I had big shoes to fill, and I certainly do,” Fyfe said. “I was really fortunate to work with her. She’s one of a kind.”

When Reum was asked what she will miss most about the job, she replied, “the people.”
