Red Hawks End Regular Season With 48-14 Victory Over Bainville
Although Bainville enjoyed a fair amount of offensive success, the Bulldogs lost to defending state champion Froid/Lake, 48-14, in the final regular-season game for both squads on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
The Red Hawks scored on their first possession when Ashdyn Hobbs capped a 38- yard drive with a 24-yard dash into the end zone. Mason Dethman kicked the conversion for an 8-0 advantage.
Bainville was able to drive into Froid/Lake territory on pass plays from Jesse Strickland to Braeden Romo. An 18-yard run by Conner Wade produced a first down at the 30. The threat ended when Quinn Abar accounted for pressure on a fourth-down pass attempt.
On first down from the Bainville 33, Froid/Lake scored when Dethman hit Ashdyn Hobbs with a short pass and the senior raced into the end zone for a 14-0 margin.
The Red Hawks were soon in scoring position again thanks to a fumble recovery by Brett Stentoft at the Bainville 27. On first down, Dethman connected with Connor Huft on a quick pass for a touchdown. Dethman’s kicked increased the margin to 22-0 near the end of the first quarter.
Froid/Lake’s next touchdown came on a 24-yard interception return by Ashdyn Hobbs early in the second quarter for a 28-0 advantage.
The Red Hawks then earned two more points when Max Engelke made a tackle in the end zone for a safety.
After a good kick return by Ashdyn Hobbs, the Red Hawks marched inside the Bainville 10 on the running of B. Stentoft and Ashdyn Hobbs.
On third down from the six, Dethman fired a pass high into the end zone. Nesbit leaped and made an outstanding one-handed catch for a touchdown to put the margin at 36-0.
The Red Hawks added a touchdown early in the third quarter on a 24-yard run by B. Stentoft.
The Bulldogs quickly moved to midfield on a 25yard run by Wade. Strickland then connected with Romo for a first down at the 15. From there, Wade broke loose for a touchdown run to cut the margin to 42-6.
Bainville struck again when Strickland passed to a wideopen Charles Butikofer for a 59-yard touchdown pass. Strickland kicked the conversion for a 42-14 score.
The game’s final touchdown came on a 29-yard interception return by B. Stentoft to put the margin at 48-14.
