Red Hawks Drop Match Against Eagles
The Froid/Lake Red Hawks lost against a strong Manhattan Christian squad, 16-25, 7-25, 13-25, in the quarter-final round of the Class C state volleyball tournament in Bozeman on Thursday, Nov. 11.
A back-row kill by Dasani Nesbit and an ace by Carolyne Christoffersen kept the Red Hawks close at 12-6 early in the first set. After the Eagles took a 13-8 lead, tips by Baylee Davidson and Nesbit cut the margin to 13-10.
The Red Hawks trailed by only a 15-12 margin until Manhattan Christian accounted for seven straight points for a 22-12 advantage. Kills by Nesbit and Christoffersen got Froid/Lake as close as 23-16.
In the second set, the Eagles broke away from a 7-4 margin with 11 straight points for an 18-4 advantage. Manhattan Christian won by a 25-7 final.
After the Eagles took a 17-5 lead in the third set, the serving of Mara Salvevold led the Red Hawks back to 17-11. Manhattan Christian increased the margin to 23-12 until Nesbit scored a kill.
Leaders for the Red Hawks included Nesbit with four kills, Salvevold with two aces and Meg Ator with three assists.
Aleah Johnson finished with six digs. Nesbit and B. Davidson each had blocks.
Manhattan Christian went on to defeat Plentywood in the state title match.
