Slater Pleads Not Guilty To Charges

Wyatt Wade Slater made not guilty pleas to four charges, including two felonies, in district court on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The charges are in relation to a fatality crash that occurred near Bainville this summer.

Slater has been charged with criminal endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident with a serious bodily injury or death.

The maximum penalties for the criminal endangerment charge are 10 years in prison, a $50,000 fine or both. The maximum penalties for the leaving the scene of an accident charge are 10 years in prison, a $50,000 fine or both. He is also facing the misdemeanor charges of aggravated DUI (second offense) and driving while privilege to do so is suspended.

According to court documents, Slater was racing another vehicle at a high rate of speed, approximately 112 miles per hour, and had a high blood-alcohol concentration on July 27, The result was a collision and the death of Brennen Bruce Brunelle in Roosevelt County. A preliminary breath test showed Slater with a blood alcohol content of 0.240 percent.

An omnibus hearing was scheduled for Dec. 15. A trial was scheduled for Feb. 17, 2022.
