Lustre News

Veterans in our community were honored by Lustre Grade School students who wrote letters to thank them for their service. The letters were delivered to the veterans at their homes. These are families to whom we owe so much, and they deserve our prayers and thanks.

Serving now from the Lustre community are the following: Second Lieutenant Timothy Lenihan, son of Frank and Debbie Lenihan. He is the platoon leader for the 260th Horizontal Engineering Support Battalion, Montana National Guard, in Miles City.

Lance Corporal James L. Moeller is the grandson of Gerry and Bonnie Unrau. He serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Sergeant Ruger Stacey is son of Jim and Jade Stacey. He is serving in the USMC.

Braeden Toavs is son of Kelly and Michelle Toavs. He joined the Marines after graduating from LCHS last spring. He is in boot camp and graduates Jan. 7.

Lieutenant Commander Derrick Simons is son of Kerry and Linnette Uchtman. He serves in the Navy. He and his wife, Sarah, live in Virginia with their two young children. He has just finished 55 days in a row on the USS Massachusetts rebuilding their submarine.

Tammie Garcia is a niece of Mallory and Marti Watts. She is serving in the Navy.

As you celebrate Thanksgiving with your family, remember the young people in our U.S. services and thank them if you pass one of them home on leave.

In school news, the Lustre jamboree boys played Frontier School, winning 28-20. The jamboree girls won 24-10 over Frontier. In tournament action at Whitewater, the jamboree boys defeated Dodson 28-12. They played North Country for the championship and won 17-12 in a close game. The junior high boys played in tournament action Friday in Frazer.

The jamboree girls won their first game 26-4 in the tournament and played North Country for the championship Saturday evening, winning 23-19. The junior high girls played Frontier, winning 45-23, then Friday in Nashua, placing third in the tournament after losing to Dodson 31-34 and beating Frazer 43-28, Nashua 28-15.

Teachers at the Lustre Grade School are John Dubose (grades 7-8), Rebecca Hyde (grades 5-6), Sharon Acsion (grades 3-4), Kristen Lloyd (grades 1-2) and Kathleen Damboise (kindergarten).

Connie Button spoke at the MB Church Ladies’ group last Wednesday, giving her life story.

Coming up is the Christmas program for both LGS and LCHS at Lustre Grade School gymnasium. It will be Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. and will be directed by music teacher Michael Butler.
