Poplar’s Boys Shoot To Improve Under New Head Coach
With three returning starters, the Poplar Indians are shooting for a solid boys’ basketball season this year.
Gib Medicine Cloud, the team’s new head coach, says the players have been working hard during practices.
“They are a very dedicated bunch of student athletes,” Medicine Cloud said of Poplar’s players. “It should be exciting.”
Returning starters include Dennis Red Eagle, a 6-4 senior, Delrae Lilley, a 6-1 sophomore, and Geordy Medicine Cloud, a 6-0 sophomore.
William Youngman, a sophomore, also started a few games last year. Other returning players include 6-4 junior Preston Ogle and sophomore Adrien Matuck.
“We’re going to change a lot of things offensively and defensively,” Coach Medicine Cloud said. “Defensively, we will do more things.”
He said the Indians will evolve over the course of the season.
“We will hopefully give the crowd what they want to watch,” Medicine Cloud said. “We will run up and down the floor.”
He expects freshman Kandil Ricker to help the team with his athleticism and quickness.
Assistant coaches are Griffin Ricker and Brent Moore.
“They bring a lot of knowledge for the game,” Coach Medicine Cloud said.
Poplar will open its season at the Lockwood tournament Dec. 10-11. The Indians will host Wolf Point Dec. 17.
