Cowgirls Fight off Savage 27-20
The Culbertson Cowgirls pulled away down the stretch to edge Savage, 27-20, in Culbertson on Saturday, Dec. 11.
Culbertson led by only a 22-19 margin until Megan Granbois scored off a pass from Makena Hauge with 1:47 remaining. A pair of free throws by Granbois increased the margin to 26-19 with 45 seconds left.
Savage scored on a free throw by Teah Conradsen to cut the gap to 26-20 with 30 seconds left, but Culbertson added a free throw by Granbois for the seven-point victory.
Culbertsonās top scorers were Hauge with 14 and Granbois with 11 points. Autumn Bergum added two points.
Conradsen scored 12 of Savageās points. Adding two points each were Brooke Reuter, Faith Reed, Karley McPherson and Taylor Conradsen.
The Warriors struck for the last four points of the opening quarter on baskets by T. Conradsen and McPherson for a 6-4 lead.
Down by an 8-4 margin, the Cowgirls gained the lead on four points by Granbois and a baseline shot by Hauge. Culbertson accounted for the last five points of the half on three points by Hauge and a basket off a rebound by Granbois for a 15-10 advantage.
Savage closed the margin to 17-13 during a low-scoring third quarter. A hoop by T. Conradsen put the Warriors down only 17-15 to open the fourth period.
After Bergum connected on a 16-footer, T. Conradsen hit a free throw with 4:31 left. Hauge fired in a three-pointer, but T. Conradsen responded with a three-pointer to close the margin to 22-19 with 2:02 remaining.
The Cowgirls will then to Bainville on Friday, Dec. 17.
