County Receives Grant For Canine County Receives Grant For Canine

The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office recently was awarded a $13,000 grant from the Montana Attorney General’s office grant to help the agency obtain and train a drug-detecting canine.

Roosevelt County Sheriff Jason Frederick said the funds will be used as reimbursement for when the office obtained a drug-detecting canine in February.

“I’m excited to get back into our budget where we’re short,” Frederick said.

The grant program was first announced in August and reflects the Attorney General Austin Knudsen’s commitment to getting resources out of Helena and into the hands of local first responders and law enforcement.

“Montana is being flooded with dangerous drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine that come across the southern border. After their training is completed, these K9s will be an asset in helping law enforcement keep our communities safe by keeping drugs off the streets,” Knudsen said.
