Culbertson High School senior Isaiah Bighorn benefits from the lessons and challenges learned while competing in athletics for the Cowboys.

Bighorn says his favorite sport is basketball and he is a starter for Culbertson’s varsity squad.

“I think I’m good at it,” Bighorn said of why basketball is his favorite activity.

He is glad that the Cowboys won two of their first three games this season after not earning a single victory last season. “It’s a nice change,” he said.

Making basketball more fun is playing with his younger brother, Maurice Bighorn Jr. Isaiah said the brothers have a side bet going regarding which player will have less turnovers. “I think I’m winning,” he said.

Bighorn has competed for Culbertson’s cross-country squad in each of the past four years.

“It’s one of the toughest sports,” Bighorn said of cross country.

One of his biggest highlights was running a race in 22 minutes during his sophomore year.

He golfed last spring and plans to be on the team again this year if the sport is offered.

“It was frustrating, but I got better,” Bighorn said.

In the classroom, he says his favorite subjects are history and government.

His favorite teacher is Dave Solem. “He’s a cool, chill guy,” Bighorn explained.

His role model is his father, Maurice Bighorn Sr. “He’s just a good person,” Isaiah said.

Isaiah Bighorn has been active in basketball, cross country and golf for Culbertson High School.
