Grandchamp Pleads Not Guilty To Firearm Charge

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that James Dusette Grandchamp, 54, of Poplar appeared last week before a U.S. Magistrate judge on indictments handed down by the grand jury or on criminal complaints.

James Dusette Grandchamp, 54, of Poplar, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge John T. Johnston and made a plea of not guilty on Jan. 4.

Grandchamp is charged with prohibited person in possession of firearm and ammunition.

If convicted of the most serious crime, Grandchamp faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.

Grandchamp was detained pending further proceedings.

According to court documents, Grandchamp knowing he had been convicted on or about May 16, 1997, and Nov. 14, 2003, of crimes punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year knowingly possessed, in and affecting interstate and foreign commerce, a firearm and ammunition.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Fort Peck Law Enforcement Services investigated the case.
