Indians Battle But Lose Conference Games
Poplar couldn’t quite overcome slow starts and lost two conference boys’ basketball games during the weekend.
The Indians fell to Malta, 67-40, on Friday, Jan. 14. After trailing 22-9 at the end of the first quarter, the Indians kept things close at 32-22 at the half and 42-32 after three quarters of play.
Poplar’s top scorers were Dennis Red Eagle with 10 and Geordy Medicine Cloud with nine points. Also scoring were Kaniel Ricker with seven, Allen Russell with six, Delray Lilley with five and Malcom Yellow Hammer with three.
Poplar came up short in Glasgow by a 53-43 final on Saturday, Jan. 15. After trailing by a 32-18 half-time margin, the Indians struck for 13 points in the third quarter to cut the margin to 39-31 at the end of the period.
Top scorers for the Indians were Medicine Cloud with 15 and Lilley with 14.
Also scoring were Russell with eight, Preston Ogle with four and Ricker with two.
Wyatt Babb accounted for 23 of Glasgow’s points. Keigan Ingram added 10 points.
